Start with everyday life
Walk through a normal day at home. Where do routines feel awkward? What is missing? Describe the problem before choosing the solution. A cramped preparation area, nowhere for coats, or a room that never gets used can each point to a different scope.
Separate needs from wishes
Write three lists: essential improvements, useful additions, and ideas to explore later. This makes tradeoffs easier when the scope and budget become clearer.
Bring practical information
Gather existing plans if available, approximate dimensions, a few photographs, your target timing, and a budget range. Share property details privately with the team.
Leave room for alternatives
An early conversation may reveal a simpler layout or a phased approach. Ask what each option changes about daily use, disruption, maintenance, and cost.
